I became a blogger because I love posting about fashion, travel and allll the fabulous things. I even love sharing certain beauty topics like hair and makeup. But I never thought I would be sitting here writing a blog post on skincare!
For the longest time, I had no interest in skincare because my skin just… sucked, to be honest. I’ve always battled breakouts, acne scarring, skin texture issues and enlarged pores. So I never got super into skincare because it wasn’t a fun topic to me. And as a blogger, I definitely didn’t feel like I could give any real valuable advice since that was an area that I struggled in.
Enter: Weiler Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics. I went to Weiler last year to try Botox for the first time (you can read more about that in this post) and I became a huge fan of them! They are so knowledgeable and professional that I felt like I could trust them with anything. It’s a great feeling to know you’re in good hands, especially with something as important as your skin.
I started seeing some of the aestheticians at their Bluebonnet office and it has made a world of a difference! Of course my skin still has a long way to go, but I already feel so much more confident when I’m not wearing makeup.
Skincare Routine
Prior to visiting Weiler, my skincare routine was literally a makeup wipe and occasional moisturizer… tragic, I know. Thank goodness for Weiler because finally at age 25, I have an official skincare routine. Better late than never, right?? They carry this really good line called ZO Skin Health. My mom and some of my friends had been raving about ZO for a while, so I was super excited to try it out. Here’s the skincare routine my aesthetician set up for me:
Morning Skincare Routine
- Gentle Cleanser
- Exfoliating Polish (2x week)
- Complexion Renewal Pads
- Daily Power Defense
- Brightalive
- SPF
- This is the only product not from the ZO Skin Health line! She gave me an SPF from EltaMD Skincare
Nighttime Skincare Routine
- Gentle Cleanser
- Exfoliating Cleaners (we love a double cleanse!)
- Complexion Renewal Pads
- Daily Power Defense
- Brightalive
- Retinol (started at 2x week then worked my way up)
And fun fact: consultations with aestheticians are completely free at Weiler! So you can schedule a consult to see what they recommend for your specific skin concerns.
Botox
After my first time getting Botox, I wrote a full blog post answering alll the questions (click here to read it). So definitely check that out for a more in-depth review on my Botox experience!
I have now gotten Botox three times and I will continue to get Botox for approximately… the rest of my life. I don’t go too crazy with it, but it makes a WORLD of a difference in my forehead. I know sometimes cosmetic procedures like Botox can get a bad rap when people don’t really understand it, but the amount of confidence that Botox can give a person is so powerful! If you have a problem area and have been considering Botox, I highly encourage it (from a reputable place like Weiler of course).
Microneedling
Microneedling was something I knew very little about before Weiler. My aesthetician recommended it based on my skin concerns, so I was more than game to give it a try! Microneedling is good for people who have uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, acne scarring, sagging skin, or wrinkles.
It’s essentially super tiny needles stimulating your skin to produce more collagen, which helps reduce wrinkles, scars and acne. I was definitely a little scared the first time because I thought it would be painful, but they numb your face beforehand so you don’t feel a thing! And I have a super low pain tolerance, so you can trust me on this. I ended up doing three sessions of this! The downtime from this procedure is minimal compared to others, but you will be red the next day – just a warning 😉
If you want to research it further, the microneedling page on Weiler’s website has a lot of great information.
Dermaplaning
I had actually been dying to try dermaplaning for a while, so I was SO excited to get it done at Weiler! If you aren’t familiar with dermaplaning, here is the definition straight off their website (because they word this better than I ever could)
“This cosmetic process is a painless skin resurfacing procedure in which epidermal skin is removed by gently gliding a scalpel across the skin. This procedure helps resurface the skin by allowing products to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin. It not only removes any dead epidermal cells, this process also removes unwanted hair, giving you healthier looking skin.”
Your makeup seriously goes on SO smooth after you get this done! The aesthetician who did mine (Sean) recommends getting it once a month if possible. And there is really no downtime afterwards! I usually just go the rest of the day without makeup to let my skin breathe.
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog & reading a little about my skincare journey! My email and DMs are always open for questions if you want to know something I didn’t cover in this post 🙂
